The Tuamotu Islands consist of 76 atolls spread over 1,497 kilometres. These islands live up to their reputation of literally being heaven on earth. At the other end of the world, coconut palms cover the small islands of the coral reef, which are called motu here. The pristine beauty of the lagoons and the unique underwater world make the Tuamotu Islands an unmistakable archipelago. Tikehau has a fantastic, breathtaking lagoon, which is extremely rich in fish and impresses with unspoilt, unreal white and pink-coloured, very fine sandy beaches, truly unique in the world and dreamlike! From above, the graceful atoll looks like a crown, just a short 50-minute flight from the hustle and bustle of Papeete. There are about 500 islanders living here, who are simple, authentic, hospitable, families of fishermen whose lives revolve around the sea, a rather quiet and simple life in peace and abundance, in harmony with nature.
The oval Tikehau lagoon is surrounded by quite a few motus, which are lined up like pearls on a string. The lagoon looks like a huge natural pool with white and pink sandy beaches on its inner edge. In between, it opens up into a small pass, a channel, the Tuheiva, where the fresh water flows in from the outside and this is where divers and snorkellers have their real joy, because this is the (!) spectacular diving spot:
A fascinating, strikingly species-rich underwater world with eagle rays, schools of barracuda and tuna, grey tip reef sharks, sea turtles and playful dolphins can all be observed here. Millions of fish live in this unspoilt lagoon, and there are so many of them that even the researchers in Jacques Cousteau's team once noted the "highest density of fish in the Tuamotu Atoll".
The small village of Tuherahera (almost all the locals live here) is considered the most beautiful village in the entire Tuamotu archipelago and is well worth a visit. It smells and blooms so beautifully with breadfruit trees, frangipani, hibiscus, bougainvilleas, jasmine, coconut palms... everything is totally cared for and nurtured, it's really impressive how lovingly the locals look after it.

Would you prefer to stay above the turquoise lagoon in an overwater bungalow or on the pink sandy beach in a beach bungalow right by the sea? Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort offers 12 beach bungalows, 9 overwater bungalows, 7 premium overwater bungalows, 8 overwater suites and 1 one-bedroom beach villa with private pool.
Each accommodation is built in traditional Polynesian style, with natural materials such as bamboo and teak as well as niau (woven coconut palm fronds), the symbolic material of the islands, taking centre stage.
All the bungalows at Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort are very spacious (the suites are between 590 and 1,000 square feet, while the villa is 1,290 square feet), most of them have air conditioning and all of them are equipped with ceiling fans, a private sundeck, a minibar, tea and coffee service and satellite TV.
Overwater Bungalow:
The overwater bungalows were built on the hoa - a shallow crevice in the coral crown of the atoll through which the ocean feeds the lagoon. The overwater bungalows are located on the first pontoon and have a glass table to enjoy the incredible underwater life. These bungalows are not air-conditioned and do not have direct access to the lagoon as they are located in a coral zone with strong currents.
Beach Bungalow:
The beach bungalows (and their indoor and outdoor bathrooms overlooking a small private garden) are located on the beach of the lagoon with its endless shades of blue, lined with coconut palms and aito, the Polynesian ironwood trees with direct beach access, with lagoon views.
Premium Overwater Bungalow:
The Premium Overwater Bungalows are ideally located at the far end of the pontoon for optimum intimacy and have glass tables and direct access to the crystal-clear lagoon. They are not air-conditioned, but benefit from the wonderfully fresh sea breeze most of the year.
Overwater Suite:
The Overwater Suites overlook the calm and clear waters of the lagoon, to which you have direct access. These spacious suites, equipped with a living room and a large bathtub, offer an unforgettable view of the sunrise or sunset.
Pool Beach Villa:
Located in the quiet area of the resort, right on the long pink sandy beach, this large one bedroom tropical villa is perfect for families looking to spend quality time together or for couples seeking ultimate privacy.
Restaurants
The bar and restaurant welcome you under the impressive Fare Potee, the symbol of the traditional Polynesian way of life.
Restaurant Poreho: The restaurant and its open deck offer you an unrestricted view of the lagoon. In the middle of the South Pacific, the menu combines Polynesian and European flavours and draws the best from fresh local produce.
